Mexican Food Perspectives

Today I brought tacos to school and Dan and I shared a lunch together. (I know, I know...) A Chinese student saw us and oohed over our spread. Then she said something that's had me thinking ever since, "I had Mexican food once." ONCE???? She obviously hasn't been in Birmingham, AL or any other city in the U.S. And she obviously hasn't worked at my former workplace! To not know the taste of Pablo's cheese sauce...

Beth,

Poor girl, how sad to have eaten Mexican food only once. I found a good Mexican place about a block from my apartment. One thing is different from Mexican food in Alabama: here they use corn tortillas instead of flour.

The only Mexican food I have eaten in Holland was in Amsterdam. It simply paled in comparison to anything I could have had in the States. Having been in Mexico recently, the Mexican food here in the States also pales.....

We have dear Dutch friends who live in Amsterdam and we visit every few years. While there are many things to love about Holland, I find it to be a culinary disappointment, although there is some good Indonesian food to be found. Their most brilliant invention must be the hash cake, though......
