Between being too impatient to wait for slower internet connections (boy, ADSL has spoiled me) and too busy to wait for slower internet connections, blogging is at a standstill!
But here is one quick observation:
Netherlands is to bicycles as the U.P. is to snowmobiles. Only bicycles are gassed up at the dinner table, not the corner gas station.
Driving, that is. I drove today! First time in about 50 weeks. It was to a dentist appointment, and I did just fine. Well, parking was a little difficult. And there was that moment when I shifted into drive instead of reverse. (My bike in Holland doesn't have such technology...) But my parents-in-law van got back to the house just fine. I like this feeling of hopping into a car; it's much faster than riding a bike and much easier than waiting for a bus! We just got word that we have a car on loan to us for a little while when we get back to Holland, so maybe I can enjoy this feeling a little longer.
We moved out of The Basement and left for America on the 19th. Our things are in storage until we move into our new home in a new village in Holland. In the meantime, we're enjoying being in America for a few weeks! I decided that it is awfully dangerous to send me to the grocery store or Wal-Mart...not because I'll buy too much, but because I'll get lost in the sea of decisions. It's worse than last year.
I'm an ex-expat now! But I still have lots of musings about my experience in the Netherlands (where we lived for three years) and about adjusting to the USA (where we live and plan to continue living).
We're still working overseas, mostly in Moldova. (It's a little known country in Eastern Europe.) So I'll have some fresh overseas experiences from time to time! Our family's heart is for the poor, and we work with development organizations like micro-finance organizations and NGOs to grow local businesses.
Dan, my husband, and Rebecca, our daughter, are the lights of my life. And Jesus is the reason I do what we do.
